The Library Corner: There's still plenty of summer left to enjoy these programs

Hope Mills Branch Library
The familiar refrain, "Mom, Dad, are we there yet?" is often heard from anxious children anticipating their much-needed vacation. By this point in the summer, however, it's often the parents asking this same pointed question, wondering just how many weeks - then days - are left before children return to school. With August upon us and students in year-round programs already weeks into their new classes, it may seem that the summer has just slipped away. Even if you missed out on that romantic beach getaway or family fun at Disney World, the library has a variety of intriguing programs and resources available for all ages during these final summer weeks.
No Sunscreen Needed
Put away the bug repellent and don't worry about that important SPF. You can create an indoor camp for your kids by hosting your own craft camp. Our juvenile nonfiction collection is home to a wide array of art and craft books. Learn the basics of origami animals, or for those brave of heart, use glitter with your young children to create a magical outdoor scene. Roll up your sleeves this summer for some colorful, sticky fun.
The Trick of the Trade
Hone a new skill this summer by checking out the appropriate how-to guide or manual to satisfy those looming weekend projects. From the ins and outs of room renovation to the latest in landscaping, our nonfiction section holds a wealth of material for the savvy builder to the novice apprentice. While we don't supply the necessary tools to pound in those nails, our print and electronic resources will definitely point you in the right direction.
Get Schooled
Technology is always changing, but our library staffers are here to help. Want to navigate the world of audio books or learn word processing basics? In August, we will offer two courses to satisfy those computer cravings: Downloadable Audio Books on Aug. 16 at 6 p.m. and Word 101 on Aug. 17 at 1 p.m. Various computer classes are available each month; just give us a call at 425-8455 to register for the available courses at Hope Mills Library.
