Discounted pet vaccines offered
Unchain Cumberland County will host a discounted vaccination clinic for dogs and cats Saturday from noon to 3:30 p.m. at Clinic Pharmacy at 3736 S. Main St.
Rabies vaccinations cost $10. Other vaccinations will be offered along with heartworm tests and medicines to prevent fleas, ticks and heartworms. Microchips will be offered for $25 and nail trims for $5.
Fourth annual Run for the Red set
The Highlands Chapter of the American Red Cross will hold the fourth annual Run for the Red on Aug. 14 in downtown Fayetteville. Billed as the largest road race in Fayetteville, the event includes a 5K state championship race along with a 10K and 1-mile fun walk. Strollers, kids' wagons and dogs on leashes are allowed. All participants will receive a T-shirt. Additional T-shirts may be purchased for $8 online or at the event on race day.

Hospice seeks volunteers
Cape Fear Valley Hospice is seeking volunteers to provide emotional support and assistance to terminally ill patients and their families. For more information, contact Chaplain Robert Lewis at 609-6710.
Registration open for Kids' Olympics
The Armed Services YMCA Kids' Olympics will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 7 at the polo field at Knox and Randolph streets. Registration is $15. It includes a Kids' Olympics T-shirt and participation medal.
Boys and girls compete separately in categories 5 to 6 years old, 7 to 8 years old and 11 to 12 years old.

Know a great volunteer?
Outstanding volunteers from Cumberland County will be recognized at the 2010 annual "Governor's Award for Volunteer Service" in August. Nominations for outstanding volunteers must be received by Aug. 13.

Celebration planned for ADA anniversary
The Fayetteville-Cumberland Advisory Council for People with Disabilities will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act on July 21 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Kiwanis Recreation Center, at 52 Devers St.
The celebration will include food and members of the disability community who will share their views on the ADA from their own experience. The public is invited.
Another ADA celebration scheduled
A second celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Americans With Disabilities Act is scheduled for July 24 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the fellowship hall at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church at 1601 Raeford Road.
Organizations from all over North Carolina are expected to speak about disability rights, resources available to the disabled community, and how the ADA has changed lives.
Snacks and drinks will be provided.
