Sidewalk sale to benefit pets
"The Big Fix" sidewalk sale is scheduled for April 3 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 4900 S. Main St.
Unchain Cumberland County, a nonprofit group dedicated to the well-being of animals, is hosting the sale to help fund its spay and neuter program, The Big Fix.
"Adoptable animals are being euthanized every day because there are not enough homes for them,'' said Shelby Townsend, founder of the organization.
Unchain Cumberland County will participate in the Spring Blitz on May 1, sponsored by Operation Inasmuch. The group will organize the spaying and neutering of pets in a chosen community and will build at least one fence. "We will give doghouses, food, treats, bedding, toys, rabies shots; whatever is needed, to the pets in the Blitz project,'' Townsend said.
Jack Britt choir sets concert
The Jack Britt High School Gospel Choir has scheduled its eighth Choir Concert Celebration of Gospel 2010 at 7 p.m. at Grace & Truth Church, located at 3811 Murchison Road.

Woolford to tee off in Kiwanis tourney
The Hope Mills Kiwanis Club is having its 12th annual golf tournament at Cypress Lakes Golf Course on March 19.
Registration will begin at 8 a.m., followed by a shotgun start at 9 a.m.
Prizes will include an all-expenses paid trip to The Masters in Florida and four passes to the event.
Sponsorships can be purchased for $50 to $500.
Former Douglas Byrd High School standout Donnell Woolford, a member of the Clemson Hall of Fame and a former member of the NFL's Chicago Bears, will be one of the celebrity players.

Annual Easter Festival planned
The Hope Mills Parks and Recreation Department will hold its annual Easter Festival on March 27 at Hope Mills Municipal Park and the Recreation Center, located at 5766 Rockfish Road. The first event of the day will be "Breakfast With the Bunny" from 8 to 11 a.m. in the Community Room. Your family can visit with the Easter Bunny while enjoying pancakes, sausage and orange juice. Calling all American Girl fans
The Child Advocacy Center of Fayetteville will host the third annual American Girl Fashion Show on March 20-21 at the Crown Coliseum. Proceeds from the event benefit the Child Advocacy Center.
Thanks to a partnership with Fayetteville Cares, tickets to the 7 p.m. Saturday show may be purchased on the Child Advocacy Center's Web site and donated to local families of deployed and fallen soldiers. The deadline to purchase tickets to donate is Friday.

Annual brain injury event set
The fourth annual Fayetteville Brain Injury Walk and Roll-athon, sponsored by the Fayetteville Brain Injury Support Group, and the Brain Injury Association of N.C., is scheduled for March 20 at Honeycutt Park at 352 Devers St. from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Registration begins at 9 a.m. Cost is $10, which includes a T-shirt and lunch. There will be activities for children and tai-chi demonstrations, educational displays, and information about brain injury The walk is to raise awareness of this disability that affects more than 160,000 individuals in North Carolina.

Casino Night to help clinic
The CARE Clinic is the beneficiary for the 2010 Casino Night event by the Homebuilders Association of Fayetteville, Inc. and sponsored by Savvy Homes. The event is scheduled for March 19 from 6:30 to 10 p.m. at Highland Country Club.

Performers needed for Robeson play
The Studio One Lab of the Public Schools of Robeson County will hold open auditions Thursday for its spring main stage musical, "Little Shop of Horrors," to be presented on the main stage at Givens Performing Arts Center at UNC-Pembroke. The auditions will begin at 7 p.m. in the auditorium of the Robeson County Public Library on 2nd St. in downtown Lumberton.
Auditions are for actors, singers, dancers and backstage workers, eighth-grade through high school age. There will also be an audition for any musicians who wish to play for the show. All musicians must read music scores.

CCF scholarships available
Cumberland Community Foundation invites students to apply for college scholarships. Detailed application instructions are now available on the foundation's Web site, www.cumberlandcf.org/ scholarships.php, and in high school guidance offices.
CCF has more than $100,000 in scholarship money to award this year. Award amounts range from $300 to $3,000.
The deadline to apply for most awards is March 31.

Chamber's Open House set for March 25
Ultimate Store Company, located at 2655 George Owen Road in Hope Mills, will sponsor the Hope Mills Area Chamber of Commerce's Open House on March 25 from 5:30 p.m. until 7 p.m.

Seeking senior beauty contestants
The Cumberland County Coordinating Council on Older Adults, Inc. is accepting applications for the third annual Ms. Senior Cumberland County Beauty Pageant, scheduled for April 17 at 2 p.m. at Haymount United Methodist Church.
