Annual Easter Festival planned

The Hope Mills Parks and Recreation Department will hold its annual Easter Festival on March 27 at Hope Mills Municipal Park and the Recreation Center, located at 5766 Rockfish Road.

The first event of the day will be "Breakfast With the Bunny" from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the Community Room. Your family can visit with the Easter Bunny while enjoying pancakes, sausage and orange juice. The cost is $5 per person, paid at the door on the day of the breakfast. The Easter Egg Hunt will begin after the breakfast on field No. 1 in the Municipal Park and will be divided into age groups with times as follows: ages newborn to 3 at 11:30 a.m.; ages 8-10 at 11:45 a.m.; ages 4-7 at noon; and ages 11-12 at 12:15 p.m.

At 12:45 p.m., the fun moves back to the Recreation Center for a "Make-and Take" Easter craft session in the Arts and Crafts Room. The cost is $5 per person. RSVP on or before March 19 by calling 426-4107 or 426-4109.

Spring sports registration begins

The Hope Mills Parks and Recreation Department is accepting registrations for 2010 spring youth sports through Feb. 27. Youth sports being offered for the spring season are T-ball (ages 5-6), baseball (ages 7-17), softball (ages 7-18), and indoor soccer (ages 5-12).

The fees are $30 for one child and $20 for each additional child from the same family and residing at the same address. Payment may be made by cash or check only. A birth certificate or other acceptable proof of age (military ID, passport, original immunization record) must be presented at the time of registration.

The hours of registration are Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.; Wednesdays and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Late registration will not be held. For more information, call 426-4109.

The Hope Mills Parks and Recreation Department is also now accepting team registrations for the Spring 2010 adult softball season. Men's and co-ed rec leagues are available. The registration fee is $500 per team. A team may pay half the fee to secure practice times, but the fee must be paid in full by Feb. 24. For more information call 426-4109.

The Hope Mills Parks and Recreation Department will be holding a recreation cheerleading coaches clinic this spring for all those who are interested in coaching a recreation cheerleading team during the fall 2010 sports season.

Attendance is mandatory at this clinic for anyone who is interested in coaching a recreation cheerleading team this fall.

Ribbon-cutting for tax service

The Hope Mills Area Chamber of Commerce will have a ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday from noon until 1:30 p.m. for Liberty Tax Service, located at 3109 N. Main St. in Hope Mills. Light refreshments will be served.

Recreation center offers new programs

The following programs are now being offered at the Hope Mills Recreation Center, located at 5766 Rockfish Road in Hope Mills.

On Monday evenings, ballet and tap dance classes for ages 4-13 are offered at 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., respectively. The fee for each class is $30 for four weeks. The fee for both classes is $60 for four weeks.

Also on Mondays, belly dancing for ages 13 and up is offered at 5:45 p.m. with a fee of $30 for four weeks. A new program to be offered on Mondays at 6 p.m. is drama class for ages 5-12. The fee for this class is $30 for six weeks.

On Thursdays at 6 p.m. there will be a "Make & Take" art class for ages 5-12. The fee for this class is $25 for four weeks.

Also on Thursdays, beginning line dancing is at 6:30 p.m. at a fee of $30 for four weeks; and intermediate line dancing is at 7:30 p.m. Fees are $35 for four weeks. Both of these classes are for ages 13 and up.

All classes are ongoing and can be joined at any time. Classes will continue as long as sufficient interest is maintained with a minimum of five persons per class.

Calling All American Girls

Tickets are on sale for the American Girl Fashion Show scheduled for March 20-21 at the Crown Coliseum Ballroom in Fayetteville. This fun, engaging program showcases historical and contemporary fashions for girls and their dolls.

Proceeds from the event benefit the Child Advocacy Center, which means any tickets purchased as gifts will help others as well. The event includes refreshments, party favors, a raffle and door prizes.

Birthday party packages are also available, and raffle tickets will be on sale at the event.

RSVP offers tax help for seniors

AARP/RSVP's free income tax preparation program begins next week at two locations:

Fayetteville Urban Ministry, 701 Whitfield Street, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Are required by calling 483-5944. The program begins Tuesday and continues through April 15.

Fayetteville Senior Center, 739 Blue Street: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Friday. No appointment is necessary. The program begins Monday and continues through April 15.

Nonprofit group offers clothing

The nonprofit organization "My Father's House Ministry's Home For Women" currently has a clothing bank with the following items: women's clothing, men's clothing and miscellaneous items including towels, bedding and silverware.

Free diabetes screening offered

Better Health is offering the Gray's Creek community a free diabetes clinic at the Gray's Creek Elementary School on School Road on Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to noon. For more information, call Melissa Brady at 483-7534.

Center offering specialty products

Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation's Friends of the Cancer Center is offering specialty products for cancer patients through its Pavilion Palms Boutique at The Cancer Center at Health Pavilion North.

Products include nonmetallic deodorant, specialty lotions for patients undergoing radiation therapy, specialty mouth care products, anti-nausea products, wigs, scarves and turbans.

The Cancer Center at Health Pavilion North is at 6340 Ramsey St.

Catholic Charities asks for clothing

Catholic Charities, a United Way agency, is in need of children's clothing for the winter, from sizes 0 to 14 and diapers.

Donations may be dropped off at the new Catholic Charities office at 590 Cedar Creek Road, Suite 110.

United Way seeks volunteers

United Way is seeking review panel volunteers to visit its partner agencies to assess their programs and ensure their effectiveness.

The United Way is also seeking participants for its multi-cultural leadership development program. The free program trains and places diverse leaders in volunteer leadership and policy-making roles within local nonprofit organizations.
